George Jeffreys was Recorder of London at the age of 33, Lord Chief Justice at 38 and Lord Chancellor at 40, and died in the Tower of London 4 years later, the most hated man in the country. He was judge or counsel in almost every important state trial during the reigns of Charles II and James II, including the notorious "Bloody Assize" of 1685.
