Peter Landesman: The Raven
Book Number: 000280
Flamingo London 1997 On 29 June, 1941, thirty-six members of a small community near Boston go on a picnic off Bailey Island on the pleasure craft, The Raven. Mysteriously, only the women and one man, the captain, naked and tied to a keg, come back - dead, found by a lone lobsterman and his nin-year-old son. Then nothing - no others bodies and no trace of the vessel are ever disovered. Conflicting details about the dissapearance of the Raven abound. Was there fog, or was the weather clear? Was it sunk by the Germans, or scuttled for insurance money? Was it a bad sea at fault or a bad captain? This novel won the American Academy of Arts and Letters Prize for Best First Fiction. The paperback was published in 1997 and this copy is in good condition with only small creasing in the top right of the front cover.
