Capt. H. Butler Stoney:  A Residence in Tasmania with a Descriptive Tour Through the Island from Macquarie Harbour to Circular Head
Book Number: 018277
Smith, Elder & Co. London 1856 140mm x 215mm Three-Quarter leather with marbled boards. A 3cm x 5cm abrasion to rear board. A small label remnant to spine. Raised horizontal ridges to spine. Gilt title and author to spine. Edges of page-block foxed and generally browned. Moderate scattered foxing throughout. Tissue guards heavily foxed but plates quite clean. The Old Wharf illustration that is listed as being on page 129 does not appear (printing error?). The full page plates are listed as per the facing even numbered pages (except one) suggesting that The Old Wharf Illustration should have appeared within the text on page 129. There is no eivdence of a leaf or tissue guard having been removed. A small loss and tear to list of illustrations page. Several ink stamps 'COLONIAL SECRETARY'S OFFICE' throughout. Also a printed label to front paste-down stating thus 'This book was one of a collection associated with the name of Sir Henry Parkes, and housed in the Chief Secretary's Department of New South Wales until 1956.' There are a couple instances of staining to the gutter plus a few other incidental stains. Heavy foxing to preliminaries and rear endpapers. The map of tasmania is across two pages...not fold-out. Binding rock solid. Overall good on the exterior but fair on the inside. 311pp
